This post is a response to the Daily Prompt on WordPress.org — “tell us about the last experience you had that left you feeling fresh, energized, and rejuvenated.” Unsurprisingly, my most recent fit of creative joy involves my iPhone — and an offer of 100 free prints this month from Snapfish. A nice little bonus for downloading the Snapfish app. What to do with 100 free prints? Why, document the ship wreck I call home, of course. I live in a one-bedroom apartment that serves as home, office, and studio. There’s barely room for me and the two cats with all the equipment, files, doo-dads and miscellany I’ve accumulated. A major clearing out (and cleaning up) is years past due. A fan of “before and after” documentation, I thought this would motivate me at last to do the right thing. Let’s just say the before pictures certainly horrified me. Can’t swear the after pictures will be any improvement, but I can say my sense of personal honesty has been pricked and it’s going to be a LOT more difficult to ignore the true state of affairs around here. And therein lies the power of a photograph. Although I only have to look up from the keyboard to see the mess, I’ve become conveniently blind to it. That first set of photos I took was a slap in the face. Ouch.
Stay tuned. I know I’m not the only one suffering a similar dilemma. And wish me luck, please.
